As a food, a Cake is sweet, baked, and has an airy structure. Some brownies and cookies might overlap into a cake, as well as some muffins. Many things that come in small, discrete units are also called cake, as “a cake of soap” or cattle cake. This is a feed for cattle that comes in slabs.
Although whoopie pies are usually considering a type of cookie, I would argue that they are small cakes. Most cookies have a denser texture than most cakes. Generally, cakes are leavened by beating air into them or using chemical leavening.
Sure, cakes generally have frosting, while others do not. Most cakes are in cake pans, with various shapes including sheet pan, angel food cake pan, and a bundt pan. Cupcakes are in muffin pans. Pound cake is usually for baking in a loaf pan. Besides being sweeter than bread, many cakes are more precious than most bread, although there are outliers on both sides (challah—rich bread; angel food—light cake).
Why Are Cakes Good?
If if you are asking more severely, then this would be my answer. Sugar, which takes many forms when ingested, releases dopamine. It feels good. However, in honor of cake, let’s not look at the depressing side of the cake. It does though explain why when your sad you look for something yummy. Then you also have that lovely easy to eat soft texture along with the flour. The flour is also converted right to sugar because it isn’t so easy to digest, which is why it’s always better to eat whole grains. So stay away from those store-bought white bread. They are basically another form of sugar and not healthy for you.
The cake is fin to eat because it’s comfortable due to all of these factors. It makes it easy to eat a lot of sugar because you are eating sugar with other things. So your body gets tricked into thinking it’s excellent stuff so that it won’t throw it up. (Why you should point-blank never drink soda). Soda is almost as harmful as cigarettes away. Just stay away from it. It’s tons of sugar that your body would typically throw up but because of some acid. Anyway, off-topic, and I’m not an expert. So yeah, I hope this was a bit helpful.
What Cake Tastes Good?
Different people have different choices. Some prefer chocolate cake. Others would never go in for chocolate. Similarly, some would like iced cakes. Others would like to have their cakes without icing.
I feel a cake, be it an iced one or without icing, should not be dry. There should be some moistness in a cake, only then it would taste great on your palate.
As far as cream icing is concerned, fresh dairy cream whipped tastes better than the non-dairy cream icing. Buttercream is good. Ganache covered cakes taste good, but then again, it is a personal choice. Fondant cakes, though appealing to the eye, don’t always feel good.
Where the question of fruit (fresh) arises, I’ve experienced that upside-down fruit cakes taste better than those where fresh-cut fruit is mixed in the batter before baking. Otherwise, fruits layered with cream fillings in the cakes taste quite right.
